Grace Sievers

April 13, 1923 — February 8, 2023

Grace Margaret McIntyre Sievers, age 99, passed away peacefully at San Marino Retirement Community, Westminster, CO, on February 8, 2023. Just 2 months shy of her 100th birthday, she was still residing in Independent Living.

Grace was born April 13, 1923, to Charles Harrison McIntyre and Mary Elizabeth Kinnier McIntyre in Primrose, Nebraska. Her mother died in 1927, leaving behind 4 year old Grace and her 4 brothers. An older sister had died at a very young age. Her father married Theresa Agnes Shimek in 1929 and had 13 more children. Grace grew up on the family farm near Primrose. Being the oldest girl, she worked very hard helping with all the chores and caring for her siblings.

Grace graduated from Primrose High School in 1940 and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to attend business school. She married Dale Ernest Sievers September 25, 1941, and became step-mother to his son William Dale, whose mother died when he was an infant. Their daughter Bonnie Jo was born September 7, 1942. They divorced after 31 yrs. of marriage. Dale died February 5, 1980.

Grace lived most of her life in Lincoln as a working wife and mother. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, making clothes for herself, her daughter, and relatives. She was also very skilled with home improvement projects. Grace was a school secretary for many years at Everett and Pound Junior High Schools. She was highly thought of by her colleagues, who surprised her at retirement by fulfilling her aspiration to ride in a hot air balloon.

In 2003 Grace moved to Canon City, Colorado, to be near family. She enjoyed home improvement projects, jigsaw puzzles, exercise classes, walks with neighbors, and visiting family. Following her son-in-law’s death in 2019, she moved with her daughter to Westminster, Colorado.

Grace (GG to immediate family) is survived by daughter Bonnie Heetland; grandson Brent (Karen) Heetland; great-grandson Jackson Heetland, all of Westminster, CO; great-granddaughter Nicole Heetland of Los Angeles, CA; 12 half-siblings: Bill, Walt, Mary Lou, Eileen, Patricia, Dick, Larry, Ted, Allen, Ken, Kathy and Doug; many nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mildred; brothers Thomas, James, Charles, Robert, and their wives; half-sister Jean Young and husband; step-son William Sievers; granddaughter Kelly Heetland (Keith) Schriner; son-in-law Harlan Heetland.

To honor Grace’s wishes she will be cremated with no formal services.
