Gregory Hyrum Ipson

December 10, 1982 — July 18, 2006

Gregory Hyrum Ipson (Greggor, Greg the Egg, Ippy, Polly Wog) was born on December 10, 1982 to Hyrum Ipson and Debbie Ipson of Westminster, CO. When Greg was born, his dad called friends and family to tell them about the birth and when they answered he would be crying. They thought something was wrong but Hyrum was just so overjoyed to have a son after two girls! From the beginning, Greg was full of life and energy which carried with him until the very end. He loved playing soccer, golf, and basketball and always being active. One day when he was six years old, he was playing in a soccer game and the player spotting him kept on him like he was supposed to. Greg kept trying to run away from him and became quite frustrated. He ran to the sidelines where his family and friends were sitting and said, 'That kid keeps following me.' It really bugged Greg that this kid kept following him everywhere. He just needed his space! It sure made us all laugh! Ever since Greg was little, he always took pride in the way he looked. When he was in first grade he would walk to the school bus stop every morning crying. One day the neighbor came over and said that she felt so bad that Greg didn't want to go to school and that she was sorry that it was so hard for him to leave home. Debbie just laughed and told her that he wasn't sad about going to school and leaving home at all. Greg was crying because his hair didn't look right each day! As teenagers, Greg and Jeff shared a room, which became quite the ordeal every day! Picture this'Greg's closet was always organized to a tee, down to all his shirts hanging up by color and all his shoes in a straight row. On the other hand, Jeff's philosophy was to stuff everything in there and shut the door really quick. Jeff would often try to get away with wearing Greg's stylish and trendy clothes but he couldn't get by with much with Greg. When Greg suspected that Jeff had worn some of his clothes, he would go to his mom and ask what Jeff was wearing that day. Usually mom didn't know but Greg would begin to tell her that HE knew what Jeff was wearing because he knew what was missing from his closet. Jeff's policy was to borrow Greg's clothes and hurry home before Greg to return them to his closet so Greg wouldn't know that he wore them. Well, it sure didn't matter, Greg was onto him. Now Jeff is left with out his personal clothes consultant. Several years later when Greg went to college for the first time, he shared a room with a guy he didn't know from another state. Not too long after the school year had started, Greg began to notice clothes missing from his closet once again. With Jeff nowhere around, he confronted his roommate and told him to never wear his clothes again. After this school year, Greg paid the extra money it costs to have a private room all to himself. It remained that way all through college. Following after his father, Greg has always been a hard worker and detailed in the things that he did. In his senior year of high school, he took a graphic arts course, which he was extremely interested in. He would stay after school working extra hours working on specific projects to be sure they were just right. During his senior year, he received awards for his excellence in graphic arts. He loved to work on posters for his sisters' classrooms and creating motivational notes for his family, which they hung around the house to inspire everyone. Greg loved children. When his mom did daycare you could find Greg teaching the kids to walk, reading to them, playing with them and doing whatever they wanted him to do. He loved it! When he had the opportunity to be a leader at Outdoor Lab in high school he was so excited! He did everything he could to make sure the sixth graders had a great time! They loved him! He did this in tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade. The sixth grade teachers just adored Greg and appreciated his help and all he did with their students. You could also find Greg playing soccer with the students or visiting when he had free time, even when he would return from college. Greg definitely had what it takes to be a great teacher and inspire kids to be their best selves! After Greg's first year of college at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for two years. He was called to go to the Las Vegas West Mission which included Las Vegas, Reno, and many other cities in Nevada. It was there that he shared his strong beliefs and teachings about his Church and learned to serve others unconditionally. He grew tremendously from this awesome experience and loved serving there. When Greg returned from his mission he decided to go to college at Utah State University and was proud of being an Aggie. It wasn't long before he was helping girls to truly become an Aggie!!! He loved it there and was pursuing a degree in Business Management. In April of 2006, he received some great news that he was chosen to have an opportunity to work as an intern at Pulte Homes in Las Vegas for this summer. When Greg called home, he was on Cloud 9 as he related the great news for his family. Greg moved to Las Vegas and began his internship. He called home often and expressed his excitement and love for his job. He couldn't believe that he got paid for doing something that was so much fun! Greg was on top of the world. Greg was very involved in the lives of his mom, dad, two sisters, and brother. Just a few weeks ago, he was the MC at his sister, Melanie's, wedding. After a friend observed Jeff, his brother, running around frantically getting things done, she asked Greg why he wasn't doing the same thing. He replied that it was Jeff's job to do the work and his job to be the entertainer!!! That was Greg! He was so excited to be a part of what was going on and take charge of things and make it fun! Many people saw the funny, goofy side of Greg, but we would like everyone to know what a sincere brother, son and friend he was. Greg was always found leaving inspirational notes to everyone he knew. He loved being around people and making them happy. He always encouraged everyone to have a positive attitude and look for the best in all situations. He was quoted saying, 'Attitude will effect your destination.' The last text message his dad received told him that his family was proud of him and that he wanted him to have a great day! A close family friend described Greg's life with this quote that we find fits Greg and the life he led, 'A candle that burns twice as bright, only last half as long.' We will miss you terribly and will never forget the wonderful example you were to everyone who came into contact with you! Our family feels like the electricity has been taken out and a huge void has been left. Greg, we love you so much and will miss you terribly.
