Gretchen Johnsen Bryant, a beloved member of the community and strong advocate for youth literacy, passed away Sunday at her home in Denver. She was 60. She was the daughter of Niels W. Johnsen and the late Millicent M. Johnsen. She shared her humor, love, compassion, and brilliance with all as a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. A talented writer, editor, and avid reader, her love of books was contagious. She traveled the world from Oslo to Rome. A model to all who knew her of how to walk through life with grace, dignity, and tireless service. She is survived by her daughters: Heather C. Bryant; Stephanie A. and husband Ken Moyers; three grandsons, Harrison, Hayden, and Hewitt Moyers. Also survived by brother, Niels M. and wife Marlene M. Johnsen, and sister Ingrid J. and husband William Barrett, along with numerous other cousins, friends, and loved ones. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at South Broadway Christian Church, 23 Lincoln Street, Denver CO, 80203. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Tribute Fund or the charity of your choice.
