Hermann Schacht passed away peacefully in his home in the arms of family on Monday, January 12, 2015 after a 7 year, courageous battle with Prostate Cancer. Hermann lived an extraordinary life. He was born in Heide, Germany January 18, 1933 to Friedrich and Agnes (Kraft) Schacht. After living through the end of WW2 and at the age of 14, Hermann left his hometown to be an apprentice baker at Kroger Bakery in the sea side village of Büsum, Germany. When Hermann was 17 with $2 in his pocket and a long journey via freighter and train ahead of him, he set off for the States to live the American dream. He was sponsored into the US by his brother-in-law George Wolf and sister Ellen. After arriving in Denver, Colorado Hermann was drafted into the US Navy for a two year commitment, serving in Hawaii and Guam. When he returned from his military service he began a 22 year career at Vollmer's Bakery. It is here that he met his beloved wife of 54 years, Wanda Butzkat, also from Germany. They had two children Tom and Debby. Hermann and Wanda moved from Littleton to Parker, Colorado in 1969. It was in Parker that they realized their dream of owning their own business with the opening of Parker Feed and Western Supply in January 1971. Hermann still worked in the shop until early December 2014. Wanda, Tom and Debby continue to operate the business just as Herman envisioned. Hermann is preceded in death by his parents Friedrich (1980), and Agnes (1977), brother Ernst (2014), sister-in-law Liane (2007), brother-in-law George Wolf (1999), niece Heidi (2014) and sister-in-law Ernestine Alcantar (2014). He is survived by his wife Wanda, children Tom and Debby, grandchildren Hannah, Nikolas, Jordan, Ashley, and Shelby, Sister Ellen Wolf, brother Holly (Linda), brother Arnold Krieger, Heidi Burose (Ted), as well as nephews and nieces here in the US and Germany (Horst, Loni, Freddie, Frank, Fred, Tucker, Kim, Scott, Britt and Lesley) along with their spouses and families. Hermann loved and lived for his family and friends. He always enjoyed a good ""get together"". A celebration of life ""get together"" will be held on Saturday, February 7 at 2pm at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Rd. Centennial. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Champion Bank FBO The G. Hermann Schacht Scholarship Fund. Please share your memories of Guenter and your condolence messages with the family below.
