J. Hale McMenamin, died on March 11, 2016 in Littleton, Colorado. He was 93. Hale was a native of Denver, CO, where he received his early education prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy after the outbreak of World War II. Following his service in the Navy as a radioman aboard a destroyer, he attended the University of Southern California and the University of Denver College of Law where he graduated in 1950. Hale entered on duty as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in November, 1950, and during his twenty-five-year career as a Special Agent was assigned to tours of duty in Houston, TX, Philadelphia, PA, Denver, CO, Boulder, CO, San Francisco, CA, Richmond, CA, and Berkeley, CA where he retired in February 1975. Following retirement from the FBI, Hale was employed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association for seventeen years as an investigator and Director of Enforcement. Also, for a two-year period in the early 1980s, he was an Assistant to the Commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference. Hale was an active member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, the Retired Peace Officers Association of Colorado and the International Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife Judy; sons James (Pam) and Greg (Libby), Louisville, CO; daughters Nancy Croft (Howard), Loveland, CO, Carol DiMarco (Tony), Evergreen, CO, Janet Flanigan (Alan), Denver, CO. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren; step-daughter Lisa Startup, Tucson, AZ; step-sons Murray Wilkening (Debbie), Littleton, CO, Doug Wilkening, Glenwood Springs, CO. Memorial Service will be Thursday March 31, 2016, 10:30am, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227.
