Hannah Nicole Maier, 18, was found deceased at her house on May 31, 2010. Hannah was born to Dan and Susan Maier on June 6, 1991, in Aurora, CO. She had one older brother by the name of Zakary A. Maier. Hannah graduated from Miami-Dade Community College with her high school diploma in 2008. She was a very loving person, with much of that love directed towards her two dogs, Cairuh and Coacoh. As a child, she spent a lot of time on the soccer fields, while dabbling in some other sports. She was a fierce competitor and established herself as a strong teammate early on in life. Hannah, her mom and brother, and their two dogs Jessie and Sadie, moved to Camp Darby in Livorno, Italy when she was nine years old. This would mark the beginning of a transition for Hannah, as she started the journey through adolescence in a foreign environment. As it turns out, living in Italy brought Hannah out of herself and taught her that a quick smile and a heartfelt laugh were the recipe for friendship. She also gained an interest in music at this time and began playing alto saxophone throughout middle school. She also had the opportunity to travel to several new countries such as England and France. During this time, Hannah tapped into another talent as she began to oil paint. She was painting until her passing, and had even sold some of her work. From there, Hannah moved with her mom to Virginia. A new Hannah began to emerge as she changed from an awkward girl to a beautiful young woman. She made many friends in Virginia and carried most of those relationships with her to the end. Miami was a short period of Hannah's life, but an important one as she earned her high school diploma. She spent the two and a half years of her life in Colorado, where family once again surrounded her. She was preceded in death by her mother's parents, Bill and Huguette (Gigi) Shepherd, and her grandfather, Al Maier, in addition to longtime canine companions Jessie and Sadie. Her mother and father, brother and sister-in-law, and her grandmother Shirley ""Omee"" Maier survive her, in addition to other family. A memorial celebration will be held at Hannah's house, 2730 S Reed St. in Denver on Saturday, June 5 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Table Mountain Animal Shelter.
