Harlene "Duffer" James Lettau, age 92, passed away on May 17, 2024, in Louisville, CO.
Harlene was born on August 17, 1931 in Harrold, SD. At a young age, Harlene left school to help his mother tend to the family farm after the death of his father. He honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
In 1957, Harlene married Carol Frances Weber. Pursuing his education later in life, Harlene took courses at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. He briefly worked in construction before securing a long-term position as a surveyor with the Colorado State Highway Department, from which he retired in 1987.
Harlene really had a passion for golf, for which he was an avid player. He also enjoyed working in his yard and garden He was a lover of dogs and routinely walked them everyday.
Harlene generously supported and donated to his two favorite charities, Doctors Without Borders and St Jude's Children's Hospital.
Harlene is survived by his children: Suzanne Angevine of Lafayette, CO, Colleen Larrabee (Jim) of Parker, CO, Thomas Lettau (Kim) of Wauconda, IL,and Jim Lettau (Mary) of Northglenn, CO. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Travis and Justin Angevine, Christian "CJ" Lettau, Carina and Caitlin Chavez, and great-granddaughter Emma. Additionally, Harlene is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his parents Joel and Adelia Lettau, his brothers Howard and Alvin Lettau, his sister Dolores Brown
