Harriet Elizabeth Olson

Harriet (Betty) E. Olson died August 11, 2012 at Pathways Hospice of Larimer County, Colorado. Betty resided in Littleton, Colorado for many years, but most recently lived in Berthoud, Colorado on the family farm. Betty was born in Heron Lake, MN on September 1, 1924 to Clement and Mildred Gillespie. 4 years later moved to Windom, MN where her father was a veterinarian. She graduated from high school in Windom in 1942. She attended St. Catherine College and the University of Minnesota where she graduated in 1947. She taught elementary school for many years in Minnesota and Colorado. She married Gary Olson, son of Ray and Grace Olson of Windom, in 1948 upon Gary's return from the navy. They lived in Minneapolis for many years where Gary taught at Macalister College. They relocated to Denver in 1964. Betty and Gary had two sons, Mark and Kirk and a niece, Mary Norden (Nelson), who resided with them for a number of years. Mother of Mark (Kathy) Olson, Kirk (Barb) Olson and Mary (Will) Norden; grandmother of Wade Olson, Kira Olson, Gareth Olson, Bryce Olson, Brieanna Olson, Jessica Mowes, Kelli Norden and Jaimi Norden. sister of Merillyn Nelson (Gillespie) who preceded her in death. Betty was a wife, mother and teacher who will be deeply missed. Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday, August 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM immediately followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM, St. Mary Catholic Parish, 6853 South Prince Street, Littleton. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver.
