Hatsumi Umemoto, 84, passed away January 4, 2009, in Denver, Colorado, following a brief illness. She was born on November 15, 1924, in Wakayama, Japan, to Shizuko and Tokuhae Sando. Mrs. Umemoto was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who was deeply rooted to her Japanese heritage and to her family both in Japan and in the United States. She is survived by a son, Hisaharu ""John"" Umemoto, El Cerrito, California; daughter, Karen Shigemi Umemoto, of Denver; three grandchildren in California; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild in Colorado. Preceded in death by her husband, Hiroshi ""Harry"" Umemoto, and a son, Koji Umemoto. Private services for invited friends and family. Burial in El Cerrito, California.
