Hazel Marcelline Dugas died suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 21st, 2022.
She spent her twelve years on Earth in communion with Christ and had a particular devotion to St. Therese of Lisieux. She fervently practiced her Catholic faith and was particularly fond of attending mass on Fridays.
Hazel was humble and charitable, spending time volunteering - most recently with EAA Chapter 43 and the Ford Tri-Motor at EAA Airventure in July as well as with the Gates Camp Cleanup for the Boys and Girls Club earlier this month. She loved the water and was a summertime fixture in Water World's Thunder Bay Wave Pool.
Vacations with Hazel were a blessing. She was a huge piece of the Dugas Road Trip Team and was quite serious and dedicated to her job as Snackmaster in the very back of the car. Whether flying or driving, every trip was a welcome adventure for her.
She was fond of all of God's creatures and loved horseback riding. She had a very special relationship with her disgruntled canine companion, Maggie Sue.
Hazel excelled at math and was endlessly assembling one puzzle or another. Other passions of hers include playing piano, ballet, theatre, watching movies, reading, and gardening. She recently joined American Heritage Girls. Being so meek, compassionate, gentle, and kind, Hazel made friends easily everywhere she went. She will be missed by her Denver Catholic Homeschool and Lighthouse Christian Academy Enrichment communities.
Hazel's constant companionship was an immeasurable blessing in her mother's life. Her parents and siblings are devastated by her loss and miss her greatly. We take comfort in knowing Hazel is at peace in her heavenly home with our Lord.
The Dugas family would like to thank the staff at Children's Hospital as well as the transport team for their heroic efforts at her death.
Words cannot express our gratitude for the prayers, well-wishes, food, and Christian fellowship of our family, friends, and greater Catholic and Christian homeschool communities.
Hazel is survived by her parents, Jessica and Ben Dugas; Siblings, Reyna Dugas and Bennett Dugas; Great-Grandmother, Juliet Lowrance; Grandparents, Jean Dugas, Vickie and Tom Hicks, and Lisa and David Lowrance as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
