Hazel L. Peterson

Hazel L. Peterson, age 101, passed away in Aurora, Colorado on Friday, May 10, 2019.

Born on July 5, 1917 in Jewell County, Kansas. Hazel grew up with a huge family: 3 sisters and 4 brothers. You could consider Hazel a professional of many trades. She started sewing when she was only 6 years old, and eventually went to school to become a seamstress. She always contributed her good health to playing many sports when she was younger, including high school track, softball, bowling, golf and swimming. She was a lifeguard for many years. She taught bowling until she was 90 years old. Hazel was married at the age of 24 in 1941, for 40+ years. Although she never had children, Hazel and her husband lived a fulfilled life. They got involved with horse racing for 24 years. They won 2 Governor's trophies and held a world record for many years.

In 1981, after her husband died, Hazel traveled the world! She has many photo albums of her many travels. Hazel's favorite quote of all time is from Abe Lincoln: ""And in the end it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years."" Hazel proved both are possible!

A visitation for family only will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 9:30am - 10:00am at Faith Presbyterian Church (11373 East Alameda Ave. Aurora, CO 80012), followed by a funeral service for all, beginning at 10:30am. A graveside service will begin at 1:00pm at Pershing Memorial Cemetery (503 6^th St. Limon, CO 80828.)

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be sent to the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association in Hazel's honor. Please see below for details on how to donate.
