Heidi Stonehocker

October 16, 1962 — April 21, 2023

Broomfield, Colorado

On Friday, April 21st, 2023, Heidi Stonehocker, loving daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was born on October 16, 1962, in Denver, CO to Walter and Roswitha Stonehocker. She spent her early childhood and school-age years on the family farm, initially in Northglenn, CO and then in Brighton, CO where the farm was relocated in 1975. In 1986, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business from Colorado State University, in Fort Collins, CO.

For more than 25 years, Heidi worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration throughout the state of Wyoming. She thrived in helping rural communities and farmers acquire loans to further develop and grow their businesses. Toward the end of her career, she moved home to Colorado to work with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the Denver Regional Office within the Quality Assurance Office.

Having spent her formative years on the farm, Heidi was unwavering in her commitment to family, with a hard work ethic and strong morals. A true Coloradoan at heart, she found her peace and joy in the great outdoors. One could find her frequenting many golf courses, feeding her passion for the game. She even nearly accomplished her goal of golfing in all 50 states. She held pride in working hard to maintain her beautiful home property and in problem solving the common woes of gardening. She frequently took to the mountains for one of her favorite escapes, the family ranch in Granby. While the ranch provided her one of God’s greatest playgrounds, it was also a place she extended her ethic of hard work, donning her sun hat and work gloves to “get after it.” She frequently gathered, chopped, stacked, and hauled firewood by herself to ensure many cozy fires upon her return home. When she couldn’t be outdoors, she found pleasure in developing a keen skill in the more domestic crafts of baking, cooking, cross stitch, quilting, and annually canning her reputable spicy dill pickles.

Through Heidi’s active lifestyle, she had created several circles of friendships, both young and old. She had developed her father’s skills in striking up conversations with strangers in a variety of settings, exhibiting her sincere interest in others. She frequently demonstrated her generosity through her unselfish gifting of time, money, attention, and sharing her many resources and varied skill sets.

Heidi was preceded in death by her father, Walter Stonehocker. She is survived by her mother, Roswitha Stonehocker, her siblings William Stonehocker (Terri), Renee Schwark (Gary), Michael Stonehocker (Robin), Lori Quick (Mark), Linda Marty (William), Mark Stonehocker (Tracy), and her beloved 17 nieces and nephews.
