Helen Harrison, beloved Wife, Mother, YiaYia Aunt and Nouna, fell asleep in the Lord on February 26th.
She was born on August 26, 1928, to Louis Tsouras and Anastasia (Keketes) Tsouras.
Helen is survived by her husband of 60 years, Leon Harrison; sons George Soulis, Michael Soulis, and Bill Harrison; daughters-in-law Deanna (Dawson) Soulis and Haley (Davis) Harrison; granddaughters Eleni Soulis, Emma Harrison, Ella Harrison, and Anna Harrison. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Theoni (Harrsion) Pappas of Cheyenne, Wyoming and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Helen in death are her parents, mother-in-law Vasiliki Harrison; sister Doris Takis (Andrew); brothers James Tsouras (Ellen), George Tsouras (Ruth), Aleck Tsouras (Marjorie), Gust Tsouras (Inez) and Sotirios Keketes.
Born and raised on a farm on the outskirts of Salt Lake City, Helen, like many of her generation, endured the Depression Years and difficult farm work while her older brothers were away during the war years. One of her favorite memories during those years was seeing her brother Jim, in a Movietone news reel, while he was riding on a Third Army tank in Germany. Helen was a proud 1947 graduate of Granite High School and worked at Success Markets prior to moving to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1950.
Helen was proud of her Greek culture and faithful in her religion, always believing in the power of prayer. She was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Parishes of Saints Constantine and Helen in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Saint Catherine in Greenwood Village, Colorado and Saint Spyridon in Loveland, Colorado. She loved the Philoptochos society, especially her ‘baking ladies’ and took immense pride in the sweets they made.
Helen was meticulous in her home and in her dress. She was an amazing cook; her Greek fried chicken and five-layer chocolate cake could be life changing. Besides food, the love language to her family was maintaining a beautiful house, making holidays special and ensuring everyone was clean and pressed. Her hobbies, activities she did for herself, were gardening, reading and growing roses, orchids, and African violets.
She adored Frank Sinatra; attended several of his concerts and the house better be quiet if he was on TV!
Above all that, Helen was loved by many people outside her immediate family and had many special relationships. It is hard to imagine a world without her.
