Helen L. Hoffman

November 28, 1925 — March 9, 2014

Helen Hoffman (88), born November 28, 1925, passed away at her Denver home of 55 years on March 9, 2014. Born as ""Helen Lucile Woodford"" to Harold B. and Margaret D. Woodford of Binghamton NY, she had a brother Harmon and a sister Betty (both deceased). Helen graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1944. She went on to work at Link Aviation as a PBX operator, where she met her beloved sweetheart Leslie C. Hoffman of Hobbs NM. ""Les"" was sent to Binghamton during the Korean War to attend the Link Aviation School for flight simulators. Helen delivered Les' paychecks and the rest is history. The handsome couple was married 9 months later and moved to Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul IL, where Les became a flight instructor. Their firstborn, Scott was born in Champaign IL in 1956, and the family moved to Littleton CO in 1959, when Les accepted a job with Martin Marietta. Their Littleton neighborhood was later annexed to Denver with an Englewood mailing address, which confuses us all to this day! Helen & Les' 2nd child Julie was born in 1960, followed 8 years later by Suzanne. Helen was happy to be a homemaker, wife & mother. She worked part time at the Littleton Independent Newspaper for several years, collating newspapers and having fun with her co-workers. When Helen's father passed away, Helen & Les invited Helen's mother Margaret to live with the family for nearly 20 years, until Helen could no longer manage her care. Margaret lived to be 95 and it was always assumed that Helen would live to be 100! Helen and Les often attended concerts & plays and they were both avid readers. Helen enjoyed singing in the church choir at Littleton United Methodist Church for many years, until Les retired in 1994. That same year, Helen & Les attended Helen's 50th high school reunion in Binghamton, NY. They later bought a motorhome and took trips to see Scott & wife Carrie in eastern Kansas, with a side trip to Branson MO. They also went to visit Julie & husband Butch who were living in northwestern Wyoming, and they all enjoyed a scenic family vacation to see the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone & Thermopolis. Helen proudly welcomed the arrival of her 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Her son Scott has 2 boys: Jason of Portland OR, and Matthew of Topeka KS. Julie has one daughter: Jasmine of Strasburg CO. And Suzanne has 3 boys: Zachary, Joshua & James all of Denver CO. Jason and wife Alia supplied 2 great grandchildren: Annelise & Felix, and Matthew and wife Katie contributed 3 great grand-daughters: Natalie, Adalynn & Quynn. Helen adored them all, but regretted that she never got to spend enough time enjoying their company. Helen will be dearly missed by her loving family, loyal friends, and longtime neighbors. Our family would like to thank all of those for their support during the last year of Helen's decline. A Memorial Service will be held at Friday, March 28, 2014, 2:00pm, Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 S. Datura St. Littleton CO 80120, and memorials may be sent to the church in Helen's name.
