Helen Salazar Martin, 70, died unexpectedly after a short illness at University Hospital in Denver on December 7, surrounded by her family and close friends. Helen was born in Pueblo, Colorado, on November 2, 1952, to Minnie and Toby Salazar.
She grew up with her older brother Joseph (Ron) and attended Seton High School. Helen then moved to Greeley, Colorado, to attend the University of Northern Colorado, where she graduated with a degree in communications/journalism. After graduation, she began a successful public relations career in banking. On January 3, 1975, Helen married her beloved George Martin. Together they raised their two children, Nick and Brittany, in the Denver area. Although Helen thrived in her professional career, her legacy is her family and her close friendships. She adored being Lala to her four grandboys and supported all their school and athletic events and enjoyed learning with them. Helen relished time with her cuzzes, exploring their Latina roots. She loved golfing, playing bridge, spending time at her Tucson home, and traveling throughout the United States and abroad with George, her family, and their close friends. Relationships throughout her career helped lead to her true passion for service to others; she was fundamental to many charitable organizations and causes, most notably: Arrupe Jesuit High School; The Latin American Educational Foundation; Seeds of Hope; Florence Crittenton Services; Escuela de Guadalupe; Annunciation Elementary School; and others too numerous to mention. Helen was preceded in death by her father, Toby Salazar.
She is survived by her mother Minnie Salazar, husband George Martin, son Nick (Kelli) and their sons Mason and Parker, daughter Brittany (Daniel Murphy) and their sons Max and Eli, and her brother Ron (Vickie).
