Helen Spelman

October 9, 1931 — February 18, 2024

New Braunfels, Texas

Helen Lea Spelman (formerly known as Helen Lea Cody) passed away on Sunday February 18, 2024 at the age of 92 years. Helen was born in Camp Wood, Texas on 10-9-1931. 

She studied high school at the University of Heidelberg, Germany after WWII, where she met and married her high school sweetheart Robert Shadle and had Martha (Chris) Shadle Cody Thompson. After Robert’s sudden passing Helen moved to Colorado and met and married Captain Raymond Joseph Cody (lawyer/judge) and had four children. 

Helen is predeceased by her father and mother Kenneth Fogel Keller, and Irene McKee, two of her sons Michael Patrick Cody and Thomas Forrest Cody along with her brother Kenny John Keller. Helen was a long time and active resident of Arvada and is survived by three of her children Martha (Chris) Thompson, Constance (Connie) Rust, and Michael (Tim) Cody. Helen is also survived by eight grandchildren Becky Thompson-Campbell, Courtney Thompson- Williams, Sean Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Jared Rust, Zachary Rust, Tia Cody and Brianna Cody-Schwarz, and her four great grandchildren Jacob Landre, Payton Landre, Tyler Landre,  and Aiden Thompson. 

Helen later went on to marry Charles Spelman and was living in AZ until his passing when she moved back to Arvada, Colorado to be near her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all.
