Helen Jean Roup

Helen Jean Roup, 94, passed away December 27, 2021 in Aurora, Colorado. Jean was the wife of Norman Roup; mother of Todd and Gary Roup, and Jodie (Jeb) Dickey; grandmother of Tanner, Braylon, Edward, and Steven Roup, and Eric, Travis, and Tyler Dickey. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Norman, granddaughter, Megan Dickey, and six siblings.

Jean was born September 28, 1927 in Brush, Colorado to Carl and Amalie Reichert. Her parents were German tenant farmers, immigrating through Galveston, TX from the Volga River region in Russia. Brother Carl was killed on Papua New Guinea during WWII, decorated with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Jean’s young life was spent attending school, Immanuel German Congregational Church, and working on the farm. During her high school years, she worked as a lab assistant at Eben Ezer Hospital in Brush. She graduated from Brush High School in 1945, and attended Doane College in Nebraska. She then moved to Denver, and began work as a bookkeeper for Stearns-Roger. She met her husband Norman in Denver, and they were married June 16, 1951 at Messiah Lutheran Church. After establishing their family, Jean held jobs as a bookkeeper, then branched out to own and operate a design business, Jean’s Interiors, and later, JR Sales, representing golf and tennis wear. She and Norman were members of Augustana Lutheran Church, and early members of Valley Country Club. Jean volunteered as a Cub Scout den mother, and with the junior golf program at Valley CC.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E Alameda Ave, Denver 80246. Jean's family would appreciate if you could RSVP via the RSVP button below.

Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge at 3:00 p.m.
