Henry Dominic Bonavida

May 29, 1939 — March 4, 2014

Henry Dominic Bonavida, age 74, of Arvada passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marilou (Menchinger). Henry was born in Silverton, CO. His parents, Albino Bonavida and Rena (Franch) Bonavida, were of Italian heritage. Henry has 3 siblings, sisters, Ann and Lorraine and one brother, Mike, who is 18 years younger than Henry. Their family moved to north Denver when Henry was 8 years old. Henry attended St. Patrick's School and graduated from Regis High School in 1957. He attended CU for a year and then served 4 years in the US Marine Corp. Henry worked in the hardware business for a number of years. He met and married his wife, Marilou, in 1972. They had a comfortable give and take relationship and worked together for many years managing their investment properties. Henry was a talented handyman. He took great pride in providing quality homes to renters. Henry loved to work and enjoyed sharing his talents with family and friends. His sons learned many skills from their dad and especially his rule: ""It is not worth doing if you don't take the time to do it right!"" Henry was a family man. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, his sons and his extended family. Henry was quiet and reserved when he was around strangers but he came to life around his large and often noisy Italian family. Sharing laughter and fine food together was part of the Bonavida 'Good Life.' Henry and Marilou waited a long time to see their sons happily married and to experience the blessings of grandchildren. Tom and his wife, Janelle, and their son Dante Dominic (10 months) live in Arvada. Bill and his wife, Jackie, and their children Charlotte Lola (3 yrs) and James Henry (7 months) live in Broomfield. Over the years Henry had a variety of hobbies. Before he met Marilou, he enjoyed taking his Jeep off road in CO with his brother, Mike and brother-in-law, Bob. For many years he had tickets to the Broncos but in recent years enjoyed watching them from the comfort of home. He enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to Lake Powell, road trips with Marilou and watching the Rockies, Premier League Soccer and golf on TV. Although just 'hackers"", Henry and Marilou enjoyed many rounds of golf at Hyland Hills Golf Course. Henry was also an avid reader often reading 2 books a week. He enjoyed sitting in his recliner and watching TV and he maintained control of the 'clicker' until his death.
