Arden was born on August 8, 1929, in Los Angeles. At the age of 12 he moved to Portland Oregon where he was first introduced to greyhound racing at Multnomah Kennel Club. After graduating from Washington High School in 1947, he attended the University of Oregon until he was drafted into the Army. After the Army, Arden went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and was part of the 1st graduating class from Portland State College in 1956. He continued his education and earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Denver in 1961. Arden taught in the Denver Public Schools for 12 years while also working at the racetrack. He retired from teaching and went on to a successful career leading and operating greyhound racetracks across Colorado and in Wisconsin. Before his retirement he was vice-president and chief executive officer at Dairyland in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Arden served as president of the American Greyhound Track Operators Association and the World Greyhound Racing Federation. He was a member of the Greyhound Hall of Fame's board of directors and was instrumental in the development of the American Greyhound Council, Inc. In 2002 Arden was inducted into the Greyhound Hall of Fame in 2002.
Arden was appointed to the board of directors of the Colorado State Fair and served the youth of Aurora and Denver as a little league coach and supporter of the Boys and Girls Club. He was a devoted member of the Kiwanis Club of Aurora spent many hours volunteering and supporting the various Kiwanis community efforts.
Arden was the unwavering number one supporter of all activities and events of his children and grandchildren. He believed strongly in family coming first and celebrating the accomplishments of everyone he shared his life with.
He was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate Carolyn May Hartman and his son, Douglas Matthew Hartman. Arden is survived by, David B. Hartman (Elizabeth), Daniel J. Hartman (Christine), Catherine D. Hartman, Gillian Hartman, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, and his brothers, Norbert Hartman (Nancy), and Roger Hartman (Annette).
Arden was a man who exemplified the importance of life through his love and attentiveness as a husband, parent, grandparent, great grandparent, Racetrack Operator, DPS Educator and friend. He will truly will be missed.
A viewing for Henry Arden Hartman will be held Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2:30-4:30 at Horan & McConaty Mortuary, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave. Aurora, CO.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church, 10150 E Belleview Ave, Englewood, CO; Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S Quebec St, Denver, CO
