Herman Travis Kennedy of Littleton 5/14/1924 - 2/14/2018 Herman “Red” Travis Kennedy of Littleton, Colorado passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 93 years of age. Herm was born May 14, 1924 to Vivian and John Kennedy in Warrior, Alabama. He joined the Air Force at 17 years old and became a pilot, flying in World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters. His bomber was shot down over Hungary in 1944 and he spent almost a year in a POW camp in Germany until freed by the Allied forces. Following the war, Herm continued to fly in the Air National Guard. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and settled in the Denver area after being stationed at Lowry Air Force base. He attended the University of Denver and received a degree in Business. He met Patricia Kennedy and was married on February 16, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Littleton. Together, he and Patricia raised 3 children. He first worked for Westinghouse and later for General Electric where he spent his career in contract sales of appliances in the Denver area. He developed and nurtured many significant customer relationships during his career based on his outgoing nature, work ethic and delivering on his commitments. Herman is survived by his daughter Jeanann (Rich) Lungerhausen, son Michael (Megan) Kennedy, 2 grandchildren: Ryan (Rachel) Lungerhausen and Cari Lungerhausen(fiancé Eric Zarlengo), and 1 great grandson, John Ryan Lungerhausen. Herm was preceded in death by his parents, son John Kennedy and wife, Patricia Kennedy. Herman lived a full life, made many friends and enjoyed time with his family. He and Pat were active members of St. Mary’s parish. He enjoyed traveling, golf, reading, his morning coffee group, their pot luck group, entertaining friends and family and his Broncos. Herman really never retired, working well into his 80’s on at least a part time basis, continuing to sell and deal with his customers. He was able to travel extensively during his life including trips to Europe, China, Canada and Mexico as well as many destinations throughout the United States. Herman will always be remembered for his positive, friendly attitude, wry sense of humor, unfailing southern politeness and commitment to his family. He will be always missed but would want all to celebrate a life well lived. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 12:30 PM, Horan and McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
