Homer J. Houston

Homer Houston was born March 25, 1932 in Snyder, Colorado, to Rosella Booram Houston and William Jesse Houston. He was raised on farms around Snyder and Brush. Homer joined the United States Marine Corps on February 29, 1952, and separated from active duty on February 19, 1954, then continuing on in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps Reserve on February 28, 1960. While in the service, he was a wire-man of the Signal Corps laying telephone wire from the command posts to locations where units were stationed in Korea. After his discharge he worked as a bowling alley mechanic in New Mexico and then in Colorado. He had been taught how to drive trucks by one of his uncles as a young man. He then went to work for various trucking companies, working both as a local and long haul driver. After quitting driving Homer continued working as a trucking dispatcher until his retirement. After retiring his hobby was woodworking, making many beautiful clocks, jewelry boxes, crucifixes, and other various pieces. Homer is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara, living in Westminster; one sister, Ellen Pirnie; preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Gross and Agnes Weikum. He is also survived by four step-children, Steven and Stuart Kaiser, Shelly Castanho and Sharon Bonilha; six children, Pat Holmes, Lucille Trujillo, Don, Will, and Lois Houston, and Lynn Specht; twelve grandchildren, Amanda, Briana, Adrian, Gavin, Priscila, Daniela, Isabel, Gisela, Felipe, Gabriela, Chris and Vanessa; and eight great grandchildren, Isaiah, Diogo, Michaela, Maia, Donovan, Alicia, Joao, and one due in January. Viewing and Funeral Services for Homer will be as follows: Family Viewing – Thursday, December 26, 2013, 12:00 noon. Funeral Service – Friday, December 27, 2013, 11 a.m. Both Viewing and Service to take place at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Boulevard, Denver, CO 80211.
