Homer Verdell Spears

October 31, 1942 — May 2, 2019

Homer Verdell Spears, passed away in Denver, Colorado on May 2nd, 2019.

Born outside of Helena, Arkansas, Homer grew up on his family's farm with his grandparents, Thomas and Moriah Brown. An honor student at Lakeview High School, he was also a member of New Farmers of America, a trumpet player in the band and a member of the basketball team. After attending Tennessee State University, he served in the United States Army in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, he settled in Chicago, Illinois where he worked as an elevated train engineer with the Chicago Transit Authority for many years. He was also a master mechanic who enjoyed working on cars. Homer’s hobbies included carpentry, music, games and long road trips.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Murphy Spears and his children, Rodger Von Spears and Wynter Spears. Homer was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Moriah Brown and his parents, Isaac Spears, Mildred Spears and C. Hudson.

A Memorial service will be held in Homer’s honor at Horan & McConaty Chapel at 11150 E. Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014, on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
