Horace Culver Myers
July 12, 1926 – August 12, 2020
Horace Culver Myers, aged 94, passed away on August 12, 2020 in Morrison, Colorado. Horace was born on July 12, 1926 in Los Angeles, California to the late Ethel Culver and Horace Clifford Myers of Buffalo Creek, Colorado. As a child, Horace lived in Cabimas, Venezuela while his father worked for the Gulf Oil Company. In 1933, upon his father’s death, Horace, his mother, and older brother returned to Colorado to live on his grandparents’ homestead, Green Mountain Ranch near Buffalo Creek. At the ranch, Horace learned the western way of ranch life and horsemanship. For his last two years of high school, Horace attended Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia.
At a welcome tea, Horace escorted a young lady named Dorothy Johnston who would later become his wife. After finishing his civil engineering studies from Colorado University in Boulder, Horace and Dorothy married at the Little Chapel in the Hills in Buffalo Creek, Colorado in 1951. Horace’s work as a civil engineer took him to job sites along the Western Slope and to Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
Horace and Dorothy had three children, Debbie Myers, Russ Myers and Susan Bahr; four grandchildren, Thomas Myers, Camille Johnson, Victoria and B. Alexander Bahr; and three great-grandchildren, Asher and Cecily Johnson and Adley Myers.
After Dorothy’s passing in 1985, Horace married Joyce Bishop in 1987, and the branches of his family tree grew as he gained ten step-children. Over the years, Horace and Joyce were blessed with an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Horace and Joyce found companionship and a common passion for travel. Their many travels took them to explore most of Europe and the United Kingdom. Each of these trips created fond memories, from the planning, to the adventure, to sharing the photos and souvenirs once returning home. Horace and Joyce had such wonderful times together with laughter and love, and they truly cherished their time together…and they wouldn’t have had it any other way!
Horace was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Addie Culver; his parents, Ethel Culver and Horace Clifford Myers; his brother and sister-in-law, Col. Bill E. and Lou Myers; his niece and nephew, Sally Hingley and Mitch Myers; and his first wife, Dorothy Johnston Myers.
Horace is survived by his wife, Joyce Bishop Myers, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Horace will be interred in his family lot at the Little Chapel of the Hills in Buffalo Creek, Colorado.
A small service will be held at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home on August 29th, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and mask requirements must be strictly adhered to. A private interment will immediately follow the ceremony and Horace will be laid to rest at his family plot at The Little Chapel of the Hills at the Buffalo Creek Cemetery.
