Howard Daniel Dunn of Aurora, CO, passed away after a fall the last week of August.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Howard was born in Rockford, Illinois, to John and Ora Dunn. He lived in Rockford until he and his wife, Charlotte, moved to Colorado in 2015.
He loved trains, planes, automobiles, fire trucks, and buses! He took a year away from high school to work as a brakeman on the Illinois Central, a job that provided endless stories of a young man riding the rails. Then, he drove city buses once he graduated from high school. When he was married, he became a Fireman for the Rockford, IL Fire Department. He worked for an engine company and ladder company before being promoted to the Fire Prevention Bureau for the rest of his 21 years with RFD.
Howard and his wife co-owned a Travel and Tour business, Dunrite Tours. They traveled the whole U.S. and Canada, and several international destinations. Howard planned all the tours and drove the bus for most of them. He also learned to be a private pilot and flew around the area and even visited Colorado on his longest flight.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Charlotte, parents, siblings, and his youngest daughter, Jill.
He is survived by children Daniel (Cindy) and Joan, all those who called him Bumpa - six grandchildren, Daniel Jr. (Carlotta), Jamie, Jen (Bill), Al (Francis), Krista (Jason) and Eve (Xavier), and seven great-grandchildren, Josie, Taylor, Zoe, Megan, Hunter, Luke, and Ryleigh, and greatly loved nieces and nephews.
