It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Hubert Anthony Hill on September 7, 2023, in his home in Aurora, Colorado.
Hubert, lovingly referred to as Tony, was born on June 24, 1956, in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Webbie Hill Jr. and Janice Marilyn Hill. At six months old, the trio relocated to Denver, Colorado, where he would spend his days at Hallett Elementary, Smiley and Hill Middle Schools, and Manual High School.
Tony couldn’t wait to travel the world and complete top-secret missions that he could never tell his future family about (no matter how much they would ask), so he enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after finishing High School in 1976. Tony was a decorated veteran receiving many awards and honors, including an Air Force Commendation Medal, and honorably served in Desert Shield/Storm support. He was fortunate to be able to travel to many amazing locations during his service: Russia, Germany, and even visiting the Taj Mahal in India, to name a few. One of his assignments landed him in Okinawa, Japan, where he met Emily and charmed her into marrying him on March 19, 1984. He continued to proudly serve his country as a Technical Sergeant until retiring on November 30, 1994.
Tony was a devoted member and Head Deacon of the Church of Christ. Whether he was leading the congregation in prayer, providing guidance and support in times of need, or simply sneaking you a sweet treat in the form of a Werther’s candy (which he referred to as a “Scooby Snack”), he always showed his love for all of the brethren. He was truly a pillar in the church’s community.
He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Emily; children, Michael and Christine; grandchildren, Anthony, Makayla, Malachi, and Arianna; siblings, James Sr. (Vera), Charles, Candace; nephew, James Jr. (Kelechi); niece, Tia; uncle, Minilink Collins Jr.; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Webbie A. Hill, his parents, Webbie Hill Jr. and Janice Hill, and his grandparents, Minilink Collins Sr., Wilhelmina Collins, Stella Austin, and Webbie Hill Sr.
Gramps, we saw how hard you tried to stay with us longer and all of your pain. God saw it, too, so he called you home so you can rest. We will carry you in our hearts and in our shared memories. Although we are saddened that we didn’t get more time with you, we are comforted knowing you are no longer in pain and suffering. We will miss you deeply and love you always.
