Hugh MacNeill

July 4, 1925 — March 14, 2012

Hugh MacNeill, 86, of Aurora, died peacefully at home March 14, 2012. Born July 4th in Andover, MA (Shawsheen Village) to Hugh and Jessie (Watt) MacNeill, he attended Andover High School and graduated from Wentworth Institute. He was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is remembered for his wit and his great love for his family, his job as a salesman, and golf.

Hugh will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 63 years, Mella A. (Mirisola) MacNeill; daughters Sharon (Robert) DeLong and Sandra MacNeill; granddaughters Laura (Jake) Holman and Julie (Darren) Maglischo; and great grandson Kaleb Holman. Private family services were held. The Navy honored him with Taps and a flag and the bagpiper piped him home with Danny Boy and Amazing Grace. His family then toasted him with a shot of his favorite Glenlivet scotch.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to any Veterans Organization or more specifically to ‘DEHM Hull Fund’ to restore a destroyer escort ship like the one he served on during the war. Mail to DEHM Hull Fund, P.O. Box 1926, Albany, NY 12201.

To honor him – laugh, hug your family, enjoy a round of golf, and give a toast to a good guy. And remember his famous advice when driving – don’t use your blinker….it’s giving away strategy!
