Hugh John Ward

August 1, 1929 — September 19, 2009

Hugh John Ward, 80, beloved husband, father and grandpa, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with numerous life-threatening illnesses. He was born in Superior, Wisconsin where he learned to enjoy fishing in the beautiful lakes in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. Hugh graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Columbia College and lived life to the fullest. He was a fan of all sports - baseball, basketball, golf, etc., but everyone knows he especially enjoyed football. Hugh proudly served our country for 31 years in the Army and was a veteran of WWII and Vietnam. He also was Post Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and achieved the title of Outstanding Post Commander for the Pacific Areas. His early military travels brought him to Japan where he met his lovely wife of 42 years, Sumiko, who passed in 1999. Hugh loved everyone and will be remembered for his kind heart and extreme generosity. We will miss the great stories he would tell. He is survived by his daughter Janet, his special grandson ""Joji"", his beautiful granddaughter Jackie, and brother Leonard. Hugh loved his family and was especially proud of his grandkids. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 4-7 PM with Rosary at 7 PM at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 25, 10 AM at Queen of Peace Church, 13120 East Kentucky Avenue, Aurora, CO 80012 with full Military Honors to follow.
