Irene MacMahon Ericson, Denver, passed away August 31, 2003, at the age of 102. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Clarence 'Rick' J. Ericson. Irene was born on her family's farm outside York, NE on March 30, 1901. Her parents, Joseph and Alice Whelan MacMahon, and brother John preceded her in death. Irene's business career began at Herzberg's in Omaha, where she sold ladies' wear for her great bosses, Mr. Waterman and Mr. Kaye. In 1924, Irene earned her baccalaureate degree from Duschene College in Omaha, and then taught high school English and Latin in Weston, NE. Irene and Rick were married on April 5, 1929 in Denver. For years, Irene and Rick traveled the west together; Rick as a furniture sales representative and Irene as a jewelry sales rep. In 1937, they opened the Alliance Furniture Company in Alliance, NE, which Irene managed until their retirement in 1969. In 1942, Irene and Rick purchased their home in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood of Denver, where Irene continued to live well past her 102nd birthday. Irene was fiercely proud of her country, her Irish heritage, and her church, and she lived life to the fullest. Irene has truly been an inspiration to all of her numerous relatives and friends across the country.
