Irene Nyquist

February 18, 1931 — August 6, 2014

Irene Mae Nyquist of Thornton, CO and formerly of Midland, MI, passed away August, 6, 2014. Irene was born Feb. 18, 1931 in Washington, DC, the daughter of Leo Wilfred Cote and Susan (Cox) Cote. She grew up in Jackson Heights, NY and graduated as the valedictorian from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn. Irene earned a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from St. John's University in Brooklyn, an M.S. Degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, and an M.A. Degree in Mathematics from Central Michigan University. She also received a Fulbright Scholarship and spent the 1953-54 academic year at Reading University in England. Irene worked at The Dow Chemical Company for 25 years, starting as a Chemist in the Spectroscopy Lab where she met her husband, Dick, and finishing as a Senior Patent Agent in the Patent Department. She enjoyed reading about history and current events, and traveling to most of the European countries with her husband Dick. She married Richard A. Nyquist on Jan. 28, 1956. Irene was predeceased by her husband, and is survived by her four children, Richard Harry Nyquist of Boulder, CO, Jean Susan Nyquist (James C. Hansen) of Denver, CO, Kathryn Ann Nyquist of Thornton, CO, and Robert Allen (Lisa) Nyquist of San Antonio, TX, and two grandchildren, Benjamin Allen Nyquist and Hannah Dee Nyquist. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth (William) Manyin of Yorktown Heights, NY. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of her Life Memorial Service on Saturday, August 9th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home at 9998 Grant Street in Thornton, CO.
