J. Newell Johnston, Jr.

J. Newell Johnston, Jr., age 77, passed away July 30, 2011. A long time Lakewood resident, J. was born October 13, 1933 in Sherman, Texas to Elizabeth Wilkens Johnston and James Newell Johnston, Sr. In 1947, J. moved to Douglas, Arizona. While attending Douglas High School, he met Donna Jean Bush and they both graduated 1952. He continued on to Arizona State University and after serving for two years in the service, in 1954, he married Donna. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. After being discharged, J. continued working in the newspaper business, working for and eventually retiring from the Denver Post in advertising. J.'s passions included his family, animals, and photography of nature. He was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan. He is survived by his children: Robin Johnston Lobban and her husband Jim, Lori Johnston Ganz and her husband Larry, Alison Johnston Aragon and her husband Mark, Jay Newell Johnston, III and his wife Donna; his children's mother: Donna Jean Johnston; his grandchildren: Lindsay Lobban Brazell and her husband Owen, James Lobban, McKenna Ganz, Delaney Ganz, Benjamin Ganz, Brittany Aragon, Brandon Aragon, Joshua Johnston, Zachary Johnston; his great grandchild: Makayla Brazell; and his sisters: Bettylou Johnston Gudaitis and Mary Johnston Norris. Preceded in death by his parents James Newell Johnston, Sr. and Elizabeth Wilkens Johnston. A Memorial Service in his honor will be held Sunday, August 7, 2011, 10:30 AM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue (Parker Rd. at Dartmouth), in Aurora, Colorado.
