John Lane McGrath, 94, passed away peacefully November 30, 2013 in Aurora. Lane was born July 31, 1919 in Lamar, Colorado the son of R.J. and Pauline McGrath. He had a happy childhood even in the midst of The Great Depression and Dustbowl. After serving in the army during WW II, Lane worked for Sinclair Refining Company in Denver. In 1955, he married Maggi, his devoted and loving wife of 58 years. After retiring in 1978 from the Contracts and Grants Department at the University of Denver, Lane and Maggi travelled extensively throughout the world. One of Lane's proudest accomplishments was establishing and managing a company which successfully marketed his patented invention, a tool to install studs in snow tires. Lane is survived by his wife, Maggi; daughter Shannon Grina, her husband, Tom and sons David and Brian; son Dr. Kelly McGrath, his wife, Sarah and son Matthew; a sister, Dixie Munro and her children, Mary, Sandy and Polly. He was preceded in death by a brother, Spencer. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
