Jack Donavon Harmon, Jr.

Jack Donavon Harmon, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2016 in Greenwood Village, Colorado. He was a proud father and hard worker who loved to laugh and was an example of courage and strength to those who loved him. Jack was born in McPherson, Kansas on November 15, 1929. He attended Bennington High School where he met a dear group of friends affectionately known as ""the kids"" as well as the love of his life, Eleynor Markey. After graduating in 1948, Jack served four years in the Navy as an Electrician during the Korean War. During his service on the USS Power DD-839 Jack received awards including the Good Conduct Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal. While on his last leave, Jack proposed to Eleynor and the two were married on August 9, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in Niles, Kansas. Jack and his family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1968. Over the years, he worked first as a machinist and then as a supervisor for various manufacturing companies. Jack enjoyed a number of activities including boating and camping with his family. He and his wife Eleynor also took many memorable trips across the United States where they had the opportunity to spend time with many friends and family members. Jack is survived by his five children; Jim (Margaret) Harmon, Jackie (Terry) Hodge, Kathy Harmon, Jeff (Amie) Harmon, and Brad Harmon. Also surviving are his brother, Jerry (Barbara) Harmon; sister, Chandra Hahn; sister-in-law, Pat Lipe; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleynor Harmon, his mother and stepfather, Teeley (Oran) Tucker and his father, John Harmon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 10AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 13120 E Kentucky Ave., Aurora. The Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 1-3PM at Horan & McConaty Heartlight Center, 11150 E Dartmouth Ave. Aurora.
