Jack C. Oakes, 74, of Aurora died early Monday morning, November 14, 2005, at his daughter's home in Loveland, with his family present. He was born August 10, 1931, in Denver to Harry L. Oakes and Hazel M. Wilkins Oakes. He attended and graduated from Adams City High School, class of 1949. He served his country 1951-1954 in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman YN2. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He was employed as vice president and general manager of Strait Lumber Co. in Aurora, retiring in 1997. Jack is survived by one son, Russ Oakes of Parker; one daughter, Cheri Schnorr and husband Wayne of Loveland; one brother, Bob Oakes of Commerce City; and one sister, Virginia Covillo of Denver. Three grandchildren also survive: Danielle Schnorr of Dallas, Texas, and Austin and Brielle Oakes of Parker. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry L. Oakes, Jr. and Don Oakes; and one sister, Florence Mick. A celebration of life memorial service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 18, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3201 S. Parker Rd. in Aurora, with the Rev. Don Strait officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
