Jack N. Phillips, Sr., 92, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2020 in Denver, Colorado.
Born in Wichita, Kansas in 1928 to Louis and Nina (Newkirk) Phillips, Jack was raised in Newton, Kansas. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder on a basketball scholarship where he met and later married Betty Hoepner. He was also a member of the Naval ROTC in college and following his commission as a first lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps rose to the rank of colonel in the reserves before his retirement. After college and active duty in the Marine Corps he was a salesman and later financial consultant for Equitable Life, working there for over 40 years.
Jack was an avid golfer, loved to travel with his wife Betty and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Denver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, an infant daughter, Joy Lynn and an older brother William. Survivors include a son, Jack Jr, two daughters Jill Phillips-Strain (Jeff), Jan Phillips (Jerry) and two granddaughters Emma and Laura Phillips-Strain.
Services and interment at Calvary Baptist Church are pending. Memorial contributions are welcome at the American Heart Association and Calvary Baptist Church of Denver.
