Jack Richard Porter, Sr.

September 29, 1945 — July 4, 2016

Brother: Some people called him Jack, Some called him sir, and some called him Mr. Porter, no one ever called him late for dinner and I just called him BRO! Bronco's: We watched all the Bronco games together only missed a few, over the last several years. We even went to a Bronco/Raider Game together he sprang for the tickets. This is the game where the Raiders stomped our back sides, the Raider fans left early and actually stated they were sorry we lost so bad, wow that was unbelievable. Gambling: We started going to Laughing NV, 4 or 5 years ago, Vegas was getting to expensive and too big. We had a trip set up for the week of August 6th and we were going to Drive, Kirin Jack's daughter was going to come along, oh yeah by the way she had those new wheels we were going to put some miles on.. Fishing: A few weeks ago I went to Bro's house he was going to teach me to fly fish. Well I am mostly a bait kinda guy heavy weight, big hook and cast as far as you can. Bro told me Fly Fishing was an art, heck I think we work so long rigging our fly poles, by the time we got to the lake to practice it got really windy and Bro gave up, by the way Bro sometimes has a short temper. All in all it was a nice few hours we spent together. The first time I went to Rifle Co fishing with my Bro, Bro and I took his Ranger Truck. This gets interesting. We make it to Rifle in record time good thing the truck didn't have wings. We get to the hotel and we have a handicap room, hmmm I asked Bro why did you get a handicap room he stated that's what was available.. hmmm. I notice when we left the hotel there was a hospital right across the street.. hmmm. We drive around town seeing where we will eat and have a few cold ones that evening, but right now we have an appointment with the Colorado River Monster or any fish that will take line. Now pay attention to what happens next. Bro goes up to the over look to fish, nice flat surface I think it even had a bench, did I mention Bro does not hear very well. Not me, Pops always told me I was Indian so of course I need to find out where the spot the big one will be laying ahhh I see it, so I cast turn around my ankle stays put, my body turns snap broke my ankle really bad I fall in the water immediately. I get my pole and crawl upon the bank pole in hand right ankle/leg in operable. At this point I am laying on the bank holding my foot straight if I let it go, it falls to the side and hangs there. I yell for Bro remember he can't hear too well, he waves I am in shock nothing hurts so I yell again I broke my ****ing leg, he says did you catch one… No come over here, he finally comes over and down to the bank, he says I thought you were relaxing at that point I let go of my foot and it falls to the side bro jumps back and says what should I do, I said call 911. He stated he saw someone up in the shack when we drove in, he would go for help. Did I mention we also passed a fire house on our way to the River…Hmmm The Lady in the shack called for help within 5 to 10 mins, I had 3 fireman coming to help me out. The lead man says, Ted what happened I said I broke my ankle. He asked if I was in pain I told him not really. He said this is what we're going to do, we will help you to the ambulance you just need to hop on you left foot, I let my foot go he got pale, I said get the gurney which they did. Since we were only a few minutes away from the hospital I got there licitly split. The Doctor on Duty asked me if I was in pain, I said not sure. Of course I was holding my foot up on the hospital bed, I told her I broke my ankle, she said maybe just a bad sprain, I let my foot go, Yikes she said and took an x-ray, guess what my ankle and my femur bone was broke, bad news she said. By now its dark outside and if I was in pain she gave me something to stop it. She had splinted my ankle from my foot all the way up to where the sun don't shine. She told me I can't stay at the hospital very expensive and I said it ok we are right across the street.. She also tells me there is an orthopedic specialist coming in on Friday, which it is the next day at 08:30. He can fix your leg, wow in the small town of Rifle, a hospital right across the street, we had gotten a handicap room, Fire house a few blocks away this is why I believe someone was watching over us… I had the operation, my Bro got me home in record time again and even took me to my numerous Doctor appointment for the next few months. That's why I just call him BRO! Love You Bro….ted
