Jack Cooper Rowland

October 15, 1945 — March 16, 2015

Jack was born in Aspen, CO to Harold (Red) Rowland and Peggy Rowland. He served 2 years in the Army from 1971-1973, part of the time in Vietnam. Jack worked for Smead Manufacturing right out of college (Western State in Gunnison), retiring in 2001. As a testament to Jack's work ethic, he didn't miss a day of work in 30 years. Jack married Donna in 1990 and inherited 4 children and eventually 10 grandchildren. An avid skier, hiker and true outdoorsman, he loved life and lived it to the fullest. On retirement, he moved from Silverthorn to Pine, CO, which he loved. He jumped right in by volunteering to watch and play with the children at Elk Creek Grade School while keeping the playground safe for all the kids until his death. He also volunteered to be a Rotarian for 4 years, then President of the Mountain Peace Shelter for 4 years and volunteered at ID-RA-HA-JE. Served as Deacon at Platte Canyon Community Church. Survived by his wife, Donna Rowland; sisters Fleeta Baldwin and Jill (husband Jim) Boyd; brother-in-law Jon St Andre; sons Michael McDonald and David Nieddu; daughters Bonnie (husband Michael) Poston and Wendy Nieddu; grandchildren Paul Nieddu, Seth Galasso, Lucas Nieddu, Ty Galasso, Landon McDonald, Maddie McDonald, Megan Pettrow, Justin Nieddu, Cameron McDonald and Rachel Poston. A Memorial Service in Jack's honor will be held March 31 at 2pm at Platte Canyon Community Church in Bailey, CO. In lieu of flowers or meals, donations may be made to Mountain Peace Shelter, 60615 U.S. 285 Bailey, CO 80421.
