Jack Sutton

Jack Sutton was born in Peoria, Illinois on March 6, 1936 to Cecil Andrew Sutton and Helen Frances (Brown) Sutton, and passed away at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center on October 17, 2018, at age 82. He was married to Kathleen (Braun) Sutton on December 16, 1967 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in San Francisco, California, and had celebrated nearly 51 years of marriage at the time of his passing.

Jack was ordained as a Catholic Deacon on May 9, 1987. His first assignment was All Souls Catholic Church. Further assignments included Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Holy Name Catholic Church, twice at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown Denver, Christ The King Catholic Church, and St. Mary Catholic Church. He served as Master of Ceremonies for Archbishop (now Cardinal) Stafford, Archbishop Chaput, and on occasion, Archbishop Gomez and Archbishop Kucera.

He was Chaplain at Denver International Airport for many years, and did communion services and distributed ashes on Ash Wednesday for employees and travelers.

He spent six months in Mexico to learn the Spanish Language, and when he returned, was assigned to Sacred Heart Church, a predominately Spanish speaking parish.

He has assisted at numerous funerals, and burial services, and was employed by Horan & McConaty as an assistant director for a period of time.

He performed many marriages, including those of his two children. He also baptized his four grandchildren.

In June of 2018, he became a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

Jack is survived by his wife Kathleen, sons David (Katie) Sutton and John (Michelle) Sutton, grandchildren Seth Sutton, Ryan Sutton, Viola Sutton and Jackson Sutton, brothers Wayne (Ann, dec.) Sutton, Roger (Tammy) Sutton, and his sisters Shirley (Chuck dec.) Jett and Karen (James) Bixby.

Jack was preceded in death by his brothers Richard Sutton, Robert Sutton, Eugene Sutton and James Sutton, and his sister Marlene Sutton.

The Vigil Service will be held Thursday, October 25th, 7:00 PM, and the Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 26th, 10:00 AM, both at St. Mary Catholic Church, 6853 South Prince Street in Littleton. A Reception will immediately follow the Mass. Interment Service will be Tuesday, October 30th at 12:15 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard. For those attending the Graveside Service, please gather at Staging Area “C” by 12:00 PM.
