In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Jacqueline Kane, who passed away on Friday, June 16th, at the age of 91. Jacqueline, a.k.a. Jackie, was born Marie Jacqueline Suzette Morin on April 12th, 1932, in the town of Grand River, on the Gaspe Peninsula, in the Province of Quebec, Canada. She was the 11th of 12 children. Her family moved to Fort Kent, Maine, while she was a teenager.
After graduating from high school Jackie made her way to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a fingerprint clerk for the FBI. There she met her husband, Martin Kane, a geologist, later a geophysicist, with the U.S. Geological Survey. They were married in 1957, and were married for 61 years until Martin’s death in 2018. They are survived by their five sons, Steven (Lisa), Michael, Philip (Dana), Mark, and Christopher, as well as sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Jacqueline is also survived by her sister, Lorraine, of Maryland.
Besides being a devoted wife and a loving mother, Jackie was a natural comedienne, always ready with a quip or a dish of French sarcasm. She lit up the room wherever she went, and was always ready with a laugh of her own. Jackie was a source of calm and serenity when she wasn’t livening things up, and even her French accent was fair game for jokes.
Jackie and Martin were devoted to their Catholic faith, and passed that faith on to their boys; even on cross country road trips the family always made it to Sunday Mass. The couple were both members of the parish choir wherever the family moved – and the family moved a lot, as Martin’s career path required, until settling in Lakewood in 1972, where their parish became the center of their abundant social life. They were even awarded the annual St. Jude Award by St. Jude Catholic Church in 1996 for their contribution to parish life. After Martin’s retirement in 1986, they spent several years as leaders of the Tuesday crew at the Catholic Worker House Soup Kitchen in Downtown Denver. In the 2010s, they came to Christ on the Mountain parish, where they remained until moving to Castle Pines North in 2017, where they lived with Steven and his family.
Jackie has now been reunited with Martin, in Christ, and although she is missed terribly by those of us left behind, she is now cracking up the other Saints in Heaven and telling Martin to put on a sweater.
Jackie’s funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on June 30th, 2023, at Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church,13922 West Utah Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado 80228. There will be a reception after Mass in the parish center.
