Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, she then spent over 65 years living in the Chicago area before moving to Denver in 2014. She received her B.A. in Music from Mills College and her M.A. in Musicology from the University of Chicago.
Survivors include her children Daniel Miller (Mary Ann Jacoby) in Naperville, IL, Julia Miller Shepherd in Denver, and Sarah Bardos ( Paul) in Arlington, Virginia. She was Grandma Doggy to Eliza Shepherd, Justine Beckstrom (David) and Geoffrey Bardos and Aunt Jacquie to 4 nieces and 2 nephews.
Jacquie was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Jean Johnson, siblings Bob Johnson and Janet Henderson, nephew Peter Henderson and former husband Robert Arnold Miller.
Jacquie’s passion was her music, playing from the age of 4 to the end of her life. She both studied and taught piano for many years. She toured in Europe for a season, performed several times on television, entertained her friends and family and in her later years performed Gershwin programs at Senior residences. Her interests extended to classical ballet and modern dance. She danced until an injury made serious performance impossible but continued to support the art by accompanying on the piano for rehearsals and performances. She was a great believer in the benefits of exercise throughout her life and in her later years was a regular at the Winnetka Community House Fitness Center, taking up golf on her 70th birthday during a trip to Arizona and continuing to play for a number of years. She had a great interest in eastern and western philosophy and theology and studied with Alan Watts for a time. She had an active work life up until her later years in a variety of roles including performing music, selling real estate, working for the College Board and the North Shore Senior Center.
She will always be remembered for her strong spirit, boundless energy, her twinkling blue eyes and her skill at contract bridge and Rummikub, and will be missed by her family and friends of all ages.
