Jacqueline M. Sawaya

April 14, 1927 — August 27, 2017

Jacqueline Mildred Sawaya, age 90, died peacefully in Denver, CO on August 27, 2017. She was born on April 14, 1927, in Trinidad, CO to Ruby and William Montgomery. After William died when Jackie was 2 years old, she grew up in Pueblo. Jackie met George Sawaya in Trinidad when she was 16 and married George when they were 20 years old. During their 63 year marriage, they moved to Denver where they built a successful business, traveled and entertained extensively, raised 5 children and doted on their 7 grandchildren. Jackie’s community involvement included Zonta Club of Denver, DU Woman’s Library Association, and Tri Psi, the mother’s organization for Tri Delta sorority. She created an extensive collection of limited edition Barbie dolls that brought delight to many. She was especially known for her annual, day-long Christmas party that was celebrated with all of her many friends and family around an 18 foot Christmas tree. Jackie was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Ginger, who died in an automobile accident at age 16, and her son, Kenneth George, who died in an airplane crash at age 23. Her beloved husband George passed away of heart failure in 2011. She is survived by her daughters Alice Prendergast Rock and Dianne Sawaya, her son Michael Sawaya, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. A private family service was held at Fairmount Chapel and Cemetery. Memorial contributions are welcome for a charity close to Jackie’s heart - the Tri Delta Fund for Children’s Hospital, c/o Genie Sherman, 7386 S Ogden Way, Centennial, CO 80122. Please share memories and condolences with the family below.
