Jacquelyn Joyce Givens

Jackie (Nana) Givens 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. She was born September 21, 1944, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Eartha and Eugene Stewart. Jackie Givens is survived by: four siblings Wanda Sledge, Betty Fox, Michael Stewart, and Kay Kuykendall; her children, son Kerry Givens and wife Jackie, son Donald Givens and wife Phyllis, son Eric Givens, daughter Dawn Perkins and husband Harold, daughter Shannon Livingston and husband John; she also raised son Jamaur Whitaker and son Damon Wilson and wife Carolyn as her own; 13 grandchildren, Whitney Whitaker, Brianna Whitaker, Aliya Givens, Alise Givens, Aujaee Whitaker, Chelsey Perkins, Cameron Perkins, Jordan Givens, Aaron Ohlson, Brittanie Brown, Michael Brown, Prayther Richards, Calisa Wilson, and one great grandchild, Modesty Williams. Nana was born in Chickasha Oklahoma to a large loving family of which she was the ninth of twelve children. In her early 20’s, she worked as an early education teacher prior to leaving Chickasha. Later in life, Nana moved with her then husband Don Givens to Denver, Colorado where she was a successful Data Processor for Farmers Union. Nana was a caregiver to many; she spent most of her life as a childcare provider, for working families across Denver. Nana was a leader, a mentor, a teacher, a “shero”, as well as a mother figure to many. Nana not only educated and inspired families, she taught everyone how to love like Jesus and be respectful of one another. She was the greatest joy; no matter who you were, she always made you feel loved. Nana was a football fanatic and her favorite teams were the Oklahoma Sooners and the Denver Broncos. Her favorite TV shows were the Golden Girls, Andy Griffith, Designing Women, and The Young and The Restless. She was an avid reader and a puzzle whiz, which helped fuel her inquisitive spirit. Nana will be missed and never forgotten.
