James Artzberger

October 20, 1934 — March 23, 2014

Jim was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 20, 1934 to Margaret (Jerling) Artzberger and Louis Artzberger. He graduated from Aspinwall High School in 1952 and attended Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1956. He also obtained a masters degree in retailing from the University of Pittsburgh in 1957. He moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he worked for J.L. Hudson Company as a buyer. He met his future wife, Martha (Marty) Van Hoef at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan. Jim and Marty were married on September 9, 1961. They have two children: Lynda Diane Love (Brian), and Brian Andrew (Jodi). They have 3 grandchildren. Jim and Marty and their family moved to many locations over the years, with Jim always working in the retail department store sector. After leaving Detroit, the family moved to Syracuse, New York where Jim worked for Dey Brothers. Then the family moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin where Jim worked for the H.C. Prange Company. In 1973, the family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where Jim worked as a department store manager of a Jordan Marsh store. In 1977, the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Jim managed a Dillard's department store location. 1979 brought Jim's family to Littleton, Colorado. Jim managed the Cinderella City mall in Englewood. He then became purchasing director for the University of Colorado Boulder. Later he worked for Gaiser Properties doing property management. Jim also taught a retail marketing college-level class at the University of Wisconsin in the 1970's and later at the University of Colorado in Denver in the 1980's. He spent subsequent years doing property management in Colorado and Kansas, while based in Aurora, Colorado. After he retired, he continued to do accounting for small businesses. His interests were wide-ranging, including American history, theater organ music and professional baseball and football. He enjoyed travelling. Anywhere he travelled, he liked to tour old mansions and trolley museums. He was an avid trolley and railroad buff. In addition, he was very interested in the financial sector, especially the stock market. He maintained daily records of his financial status. He also enjoyed meeting people and getting to know them. He truly had the ""gift of gab."" Contributions may be made to the Denver Rescue Mission or to the Arthritis Foundation (Arthritis.org).
