James F. ""Jim"" Curtin

September 18, 1942 — May 6, 2018

Jim was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Henry and Elise Curtin. He grew up in Springfield, Illinois. He received his Registered Pharmacist degree in 1965 from Drake University. He practiced pharmacy at St. John’s Hospital and Watt Brothers Pharmacy both in Springfield, Illinois. He married Barbara Glover in Springfield on September 14, 1974. They relocated to Denver in 1983. Jim continued to practice pharmacy at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center until it was decommissioned. Jim was the final civilian pharmacy supervisor at Fitzsimons and he turned out the lights in 1997. He then worked as an inpatient pharmacy supervisor at the University of Colorado Hospital until his retirement. Jim and Barb traveled extensively in their retirement. They visited all of the continents except for Antarctica. His favorite trips included visiting Angkor Watt in Cambodia and the Terra Cotta Warriors in Xian, China. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, fine wine and volunteer work. Jim was the eternal optimist. He always had faith that the Broncos would win and that he would win the Fantasy Football pool. He also gambled with Mother Nature and planted flowers and tomatoes in Colorado before Mother’s Day. Many a times, he would be outside before the May snowstorm covering his plants. His friends would all groan at “Jim Jokes” and his quirky sayings. Even with his health issues, Jim would always say that he was excellent and felt fine. One of his favorite saying was that “he felt fine as a frog’s hair split five ways and that was mighty fine”. Jim made everyone feel good and be happy. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jim is survived by his Wife, Barbara, Daughter, Christin Curtin (Grant) Wood; Grandchildren, Danielle Wood, Luke Wood; Brother, Jack J. Curtin; Mother-in-law, Frances Glover; Sister-in-law, Mary (Don) Nelson, Nephew, Andrew Nelson; and Brother-in-law, Frank J. Glover. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday May 15, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2375 East Arizona Avenue, Denver. Please make donations in his memory to Drake University School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Cline 106, 2507 University Ave., Des Moines, IA 50311-4505 and the Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, 6750 West 52nd Avenue, Arvada, CO 80002.
