The Old Chicago community lost a legend on November 30th, 2023, when James Eldon Dick (known to all as "J.D.") unexpectedly passed away doing what he loved and surrounded by friends and acquaintances.
Born on March 10th, 1948, J.D. was raised in Pueblo, CO. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Ordinanceman and completed two tours in Vietnam during his four years of service. After his honorable discharge from the military he received an Associate in Applied Science degree from the University of Southern Colorado Pueblo, as well as an Associate in Arts degree from Charles County Community College in Maryland.
J.D. worked in different construction jobs, at the U.S. Navy Commissary, for the U.S. Forest Service, at multiple bar/restaurants (including the Irish Pub and Grill in Pueblo), and at the Pueblo Army Depot. In 1995, he worked as a travel agent after becoming medically disabled.
J.D. was an avid dart player and won many dart league championships over his years of playing. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, skiing, listening to music, going to sporting events, riding his motorcycle/scooters, driving his cars, and traveling.
J.D. was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA), and Vietnam Veterans of America.
He was also a lifelong sports fan and loved the Washington Redskins, Maryland Terrapins, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, Colorado Mammoth, and Colorado Crush. His walker, scooters, knee braces, clothing, and accessories always coordinated with the changing sporting seasons throughout the year. J.D. continued to travel throughout his years to most (if not all) of the Old Chicago franchises around the United States while completing his record number of World Beer Tours.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and is survived by his sister, niece, nephew, and grand niece.
In lieu of flowers, gifts, or donations.......please raise your favorite pint or libation in honor of our friend, brother, and uncle J.D.
