Mike was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to John L. and Ann B. (Quinlan) Fleming on May 26, 1934. He was raised there with his sister JoAnn Fleming Kneisler and brother John L. Fleming all of whom have preceded him in death. He attended Sacred Heart Academy and Central Michigan University where he was an avid ""fighting Chippewa"". After graduating from CMU he attended Officer's Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, then serving a four year tour of duty as a Lieutenant JG in Hawaii and Midway Island. After being discharged in 1960, he returned to Chicago to begin his business career with the brokerage firm of Cruttenden, Podesta & Miller. Shortly after this, in 1961, he met his future wife, Kathleen Johnson Fleming. They were married on December 29, 1962 and moved immediately to Denver after a transfer. CP&M was then merged with Walton & Co and Mike worked with them until the fall of 1963 when he was hired by a newly formed Municipal Bond form of Kirchner & Co. which later became Kirchner, Moore & Co. Many years later this firm was bought by George K. Baum & Co. In 2002 Mike was ""head hunted"" by the firm of RBC Dain Rauscher, now RBC Wealth Management. He ended his highly successful career and retired in 2008. Being an avid golfer, Mike joined Cherry Hills Country Club in 1977, where many good friends were made, and with Mike's singular talent for telling good jokes, many good times were also had. With his Irish charisma, everyone he met became a friend. Over the years, Mike and Kathey loved to travel and were fortunate enough to visit many parts of the world from Africa to China, and many places in between, both near and far. Mike peacefully and quietly joined his Lord and family in heaven on January 23, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Johnson Fleming, his daughter Colleen and son Daniel. We were very blessed to have had his light, love and laughter in our lives. Mike is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Matthew Kneisler, Mark Kneisler, Luke Kneisler, John Kneisler, Christopher Kneisler, Andrew Kneisler, Kathleen Kneisler Haeker (John), Erin Mahoney Alderfer, Kevin Mahoney (Kate), Megan Mahoney, Sheila Mahoney Startup (Mike), Nora Mahoney Petchkofski (Mark), Jennifer Dougan, Molly Dougan Wall (Dan), Frederick Johnson, Ashley Johnson Trottier. A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then, someone at my side says, ""There, she is gone"" Gone where? Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side. And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me -- not in her. And, just at the moment when someone says, ""There, she is gone,"" there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, ""Here she comes!"" And that is dying... Death comes in its own time, in its own way. Death is as unique as the individual experiencing it. ~ Anonymous Please share your memories of Mike and condolences with his family by signing the guestbook below.
