James Gaston 78, of Denver, CO and former resident of Ogallala died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at his home. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 9 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel in Thornton, CO. He was born August 12, 1935 in Ogallala, the son of Kenneth and Gayle (Hillyer) Gaston and graduated from Ogallala High School. In 1953, he married Jean Fenwick. Their first home was in the Lewellen area where Jim worked at both farming and ranching. In the winter months he had commercial hunting blinds and also worked at the Oshkosh news office. They moved to Ogallala and Jim hauled cattle for Ralph Harmonson. He also drove charter bus for the Wade Bus Line. In 1960, they moved to Colorado. Jim became a long distance trucker for many years. When the company sold, he started his own construction company and build homes for two years. The next 22 years he was a heavy equipment operator for Xcel Energy and retired in 1994. Jim enjoyed music, hunting, fishing, sports, crossword puzzles and reading. He also entertained his family over the years by telling ""tall tales"" about his experiences in the ""Old Days."" Survivors include his wife Jean, three sons, Robert Gaston and wife Sharon, Bill Gaston and wife Liz, Shane Gaston and one daughter Terri Gaston. Ten grandchildren, Heath Gaston and wife Jamie, Thomas Martinez and friend Brad , Brandon Gaston, Chad Gaston and wife Kendra, Nicole Peltz and husband Eric, Caleb and Jared Samuelson, Tessa, Landon and Logan Gaston. He is also survived by six great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Katherine Gaston, and his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Bill Swanson, and his daughter Tamara J. Gaston. The family suggests Memorial Contributions to help feed the homeless.
