James Gregory Guinan, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2021. He is survived by his son Mark, daughter Julie, granddaughters Kayleigh and Madeline and his brother Keith.
He was Greg to all who knew him; warm, witty, and quick to smile with a gregarious personality that could light up a room. First and foremost, he was a man of faith who never lost sight of his priorities. A dedicated servant who attended church up until his final days. One who lived by example and taught his children that God comes first, and everything else, is a distant second.
Greg was also a very talented journalist who spent his early career in Chicago and Washington, DC as a reporter. He ultimately moved back to Denver and became Vice President of Public Affairs at KWGN – where he worked for more than three decades. He moderated the talk show “Town Hall Tonight” and was part of a weekly panel on “You’re Right to Say It.” An avid reader, Greg was rarely without a book or a newspaper. He was well-versed in many areas, particularly politics. His other major passion was the Denver Broncos and throughout his life, Greg was a devoted fan through thick and thin.
But Greg’s lasting legacy will be the immeasurable impact he had on his family. He married the love of his life, Kathy McCarty, in 1965 and was a committed and caring husband until her death in 2013. Greg loved kids and he took his role as father seriously -- always helping out with homework and never missing a birthday, dance recital or baseball game. He remained a big part of his adult children’s lives up until his final days.
Greg is now reunited with his cherished wife and daughter, Caroline, but he will be missed dearly by those whose lives he touched so deeply.
