James Edward ""Jim"" Managhan, Jr., 66, of Denver, passed away on May 16, 2013. He was born in South Bend, Indiana, on March 31, 1947, to James Edward Monaghan, Sr. and Marion (Currigan) Monaghan. Jim is survived by his wife, Lisa Gilford; his children and grandchildren. As a strategist in public affairs during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Jim Monaghan supported Holy Ghost pastor Msgr. C.B. Woodrich, known popularly as Father Woody, in his high-profile efforts to provide food and shelter for the poor and homeless. He used his connections to powerful business and civic leaders to solicit backing for Father Woody's ministry to the powerless. Jim later assisted Holy Ghost in its negotiations with developers who wanted to build the new high-rise office building, 1999 Broadway, on the Holy Ghost triangle formed by Broadway and 19th and California streets. In the end, developers paid millions of dollars to the archdiocese for the rights to build the office tower next to and above the church. Jim also created the ""Father Woody"" campaign to boost the image of one client, Continental Airlines, and it raised millions of dollars for the priest's ministry, according to a news account. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd, 9:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 1900 California Street, Denver. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 12801 W. 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. There will be a reception at the Governor's Mansion, 400 E. 8th Avenue, Denver, following the Interment.
