James T. Over

James Thomas Over was born August 29, 1927 to Harry Over and Pearl Hannigan in Denver, Colorado. Jim entered the U.S. Army in August 1945 and was stationed in Lens, Austria after basic training in Camp Roberts, California. In 1946 while stationed in Austria, he served in Eisenhower's Honor Guard. He also escorted and guarded prisoners of war from prison camp to work detail mostly via train. Also included in his duties were managing a club for U.S. soldiers in Unken, Austria. Jim was discharged from Radstad, Austria in July 1947. As well during World War II, he served in the American Occupational Forces. During his time in the U.S. Army, Jim earned several medals including the World War II Victory Medal and a Heroic Achievement Medal. Jim is also a member of Elks Lodge #17. Upon returning from the service, Jim worked for his brother, John, in his boiler making business until 1949 when he went to work for the Denver Public Schools in the Maintenance Department. When Jim retired from Denver Public Schools in 1984, he began working for Foothills Parks and Recreation at the Lily Gulch Center. After transferring to the Washington Heights Center, Jim retired in 1995 after 10 years with Foothills Parks and Recreation. In his youth, Jim attended St. Joseph School and West High School. Jim continued his education by attending several courses offered by Denver Public Schools for custodial training. Jim was an avid sportsman who enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and golfing. Jim was also a fan of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He also enjoyed his family and doting on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife, Vivian; sons, Richard and James; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
