James Paulukovich

December 14, 1960 — April 10, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce that James (Jim) Thomas Paulukovich passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2021 surrounded by love.
Jim was married to his best friend and love of his life Laurie for 27 years. Together they raised five Siberian Huskies. Jim and Laurie prioritized and cherished the quality time they spent together. They enjoyed the simplicity of a quiet evening, a walk, hike or road trip with each other and their dog(s) and never missed an opportunity to share a hug, kiss or to pet a dog!
A Colorado native, Jim was born on December 14, 1960 to Thomas and Constantina Paulukovich.
Jim graduated from Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, Colorado.
Jim’s favorite employment memory was feeding pumpkin muffins to a bear named Sissy while working at The Fort restaurant in Morrison in the 1970’s. Jim worked at King Soopers where he met his wife Lauralee (Laurie) and found his passion for information technology. Jim earned many certifications and spent the remainder of his career working in the Douglas County School District. While Jim was hired to keep thousands of devices functional for students and staff, he was willing to do whatever asked in the pursuit of helping students and staff succeed.
Jim loved learning new things and using what he had learned to help others. It was not enough for Jim to simply learn something, he had to apply what he had learned. Jim believed strongly in “trust but verify” so he always applied what he had learned and then tested and re-tested it, broke it, and fixed it and then, either having verified the integrity of the lesson or having made it better, used it to help others.
Jim loved history and often marveled at the unexpected inter-connections that reveal themselves as you delve deeper.
Jim believed in acceptance and forgiveness and not harboring feelings of blame or anger. He believed in making the world a better place through his actions and words. Jim extended his hand in help and was always happy to do whatever was asked of him while expecting nothing in return. He had an infectious laugh, and his smile and sense of humor brightened any room.
To honor Jim’s legacy, look for the unexpected inter-connection, have an appreciation for history and a passion for learning. Always be humble and kind, stand up for what is right and prioritize and cherish precious time with those you love most.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Constantina Paulukovich and sister Tina Paulukovich.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie; parents-in-law Kenneth and Vicki Groth; sister Pamela (Arnold) Dittmer; brother David Paulukovich; sisters-in-law Rachel Groth (Dawn Romano), Christina (Wayne) Wynkoop; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Expressions of sympathy, including honorary donations in Jim Paulukovich’s name to MaxFund, maxfund.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org .
